Roatan Lifestyle

Are you considering making a move to Roatan? You likely have many questions surrounding the jump. Such as how to acquire residency, who to hire to build your home, and importantly “what will my lifestyle be like?” Luckily, Roatan has a little something to offer for everybody! Whether you’re into extreme sports, such as kiteboarding, or simply enjoy lounging in a hammock with a good book. There’s a niche for you on our beautiful island!

For The Adventurer

If you’re into extreme sports, you’ll love spending your weekends learning to kitesurf at Camp Bay Lodge. The KiteSurf school is located on the East End of the island, where it receives prime wind along unbeatable stretches of virgin beach. Open from December to September

For The Scuba Diver

Probably the most popular pastime on Roatan, aside from sunset Salva Vidas, would be scuba diving! Roatan is home to numerous dive shops and instructor schools. Learn tech diving and explore deep shipwrecks, hone your underwater photography skills, or simply hang out at 40’ admiring the incredible underwater landscape. Roatan’s reef is part of the Mesoamerican Reef – the second largest reef system in the world!

For The Conservationist

Roatan offers numerous opportunities to get involved in the fight to save the ocean. Organizations such as the Roatan Marine Park, MARAlliance, or the Bay Islands Conservation Association are consistently hosting beach clean ups and other efforts that allow the community to give back. If you are looking for volunteer opportunities outside of ocean conservation, there are several other charities that are always looking for help or donations, including the SOL Foundation for children, ROAR for animals, and Clinica Esperanza.

For The Yogi

Roatan is quickly transforming to become the next yoga destination. Daily classes are held at Sun Yoga, a second level palapa located on the beach in West End. Unalome Yoga Roatan recently opened in West Bay, offering daily retreats into Roatan’s jungle as well as Reiki Treatment and Ayurvedic Cooking Lessons. If you’re looking for more UMPH in your exercise regime, Roatan is also home to several gyms, including the locally owned Active Fitness Center in West End.

For The Introvert

Sometimes all you want to do is curl up in a hammock and enjoy a good book! The Booknook, located at Hotel Chili’s in West End, offers books of all genres for you to enjoy. There are also plenty of cafes to enjoy a tea or coffee with your new book, including Cafe Escondido in West End or Cafe 314 in Sandy Bay.

Why A Metal Roof Is Ideal For Your Roatan Home

Why A Metal Roof Is Ideal On Roatan

Building a customized home in paradise is easily one of the most exciting times in your life as a homeowner. From choosing charming decorative details to thoroughly thought out floor plans, you will have your fair share of decisions to make. One of those decisions can be which roofing material is the best option to not only complement your home, but withstand the high demands of Roatan’s climate?

Enter The Metal Roof

Metal panels have surged in popularity thanks to their durability, high performance, and comprehensive range of colors and styles. But these environmentally friendly roofs have been popular on Roatan for decades! The people of Roatan knew that metal roofs were unmatched when it came to their ability to sustain high UV exposure, salty air, tropical temperatures, and the high gust from trade-winds. So what other reasons make a metal roof ideal for your custom Roatan home?

Metal Panels Are Solar Ready

Many homeowners are concerned with how sustainable their homes are. This is especially true on an island with limited resources, where you truly see the impacts of your everyday decisions on the environment. For this reason, many homeowners are beginning to lean towards cleaner energy options, such as solar panels. If you are looking at installing solar panels on your home, a metal rooftops’ natural heat conduction and stronger structure makes it a far superior choice of roofing material.

Withstand Tough Weather Conditions

Metal roofs are renowned for their durability. High winds? No worries. Wildfire? The roof will still be there. Salt exposure? An aluminum roof can better resist corrosion and rusting from saltwater than other roofing materials combined. And with the proper paint finishing, metal roofs can even withstand high UV exposure with minimum fading. Meaning your roof may easily look as good today as it will in 20 years.

Low Maintenance

Perhaps everyone’s favorite aspect of a metal roof: it looks good without trying! Aside from a yearly cleaning (bi-yearly is better) you won’t need to do much to maintain your metal roof. Meaning more time snorkeling Roatan’s incredible coral reef or sipping Monkey Lala’s by your infinity pool overlooking the iron shore.
