For The Scuba Diver
Probably the most popular pastime on Roatan, aside from sunset Salva Vidas, would be scuba diving! Roatan is home to numerous dive shops and instructor schools. Learn tech diving and explore deep shipwrecks, hone your underwater photography skills, or simply hang out at 40’ admiring the incredible underwater landscape. Roatan’s reef is part of the Mesoamerican Reef – the second largest reef system in the world!
For The Conservationist
Roatan offers numerous opportunities to get involved in the fight to save the ocean. Organizations such as the Roatan Marine Park, MARAlliance, or the Bay Islands Conservation Association are consistently hosting beach clean ups and other efforts that allow the community to give back. If you are looking for volunteer opportunities outside of ocean conservation, there are several other charities that are always looking for help or donations, including the SOL Foundation for children, ROAR for animals, and Clinica Esperanza.
For The Yogi
Roatan is quickly transforming to become the next yoga destination. Daily classes are held at Sun Yoga, a second level palapa located on the beach in West End. Unalome Yoga Roatan recently opened in West Bay, offering daily retreats into Roatan’s jungle as well as Reiki Treatment and Ayurvedic Cooking Lessons. If you’re looking for more UMPH in your exercise regime, Roatan is also home to several gyms, including the locally owned Active Fitness Center in West End.
